In my opinion, Resident Evil 4 is one of the best video games released ever, bar none. So it only stands to reason that the fourth installment of the Resident Evil movie franchise will be just as good, right? Right? Answer me! While few video games have successfully made the leap from video game to successful film adaptation—and vice versa, with the exception of Goldeneye for the N64 andEscape from Butcher Bay for the X360 based from the Chronicles of Riddick franchise—there’s no shortage of Hollywood studios willing to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to backing these scripts.
Earlier this week it was announced that the fourth installment of the resident evil film series, to be titledResident Evil: Afterlife, was given the green light from Screen Gems Studios. The fourth film takes place shortly after where the last film ended whereAlice, played by Mila Jovovich, and while little is known about the storyline as of yet we do know that it will take place both in Tokyo as well as Alaska. Why? I don’t know. But Mila Jovovich is confirmed for the movie, and Paul W.S. Anderson is set to write the film, but shows no plans to direct.
As a sidenote, if you live in Toronto and saw Resident Evil: Apocalypse in theaters you’ll know that the director made absolutely no attempt to hide the fact that this film was shot here. So much so in fact that if you go to the Wikipedia entry on Toronto and look under the city’s nicknames you will see the name Raccoon City as a kind of pastiche to the film. Just thought I’d mention it.
