"Any Human Heart" Hits PBS

"Any Human Heart" Hits PBS

from X-Files News by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson)

We're not sure about any human's heart, but every American Phile's heart will be thrilled to know that Any Human Heart, starring Gillian Anderson, is coming to the US.

Masterpiece Classic on PBS will be broadcasting the miniseries on February 13th, 20th, and 27th. To find out the time and channel, be sure to check your local listings.

If you don't know much about the series, it's based on the novel of the same name by William Boyd which chronicles the life of writer Logan Mountstuart.

The main character's life spanned the twentieth century, and during that time he met its most famous people and lived through its most famous  historical events.

Gillian plays the Duchess of Windsor Wallis Simpson, appearing in three of the four episodes. If you want to know more about the show, check out its website here. And be sure to watch this Sunday on PBS.

Doggett & Reyes Are Keeping Busy

Doggett & Reyes Are Keeping Busy

from X-Files News by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson)

Doggett and Reyes are back in action...well sort of. Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish both have a busy year ahead of them, each with several new projects in the works.

As reported earlier, Robert Patrick recently joined the cast of Red Faction: Origins. However, it seems that he has signed onto another project called Safe House. Patrick will be joining the cast of the CIA thriller along with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.

He is also set to star in Freedom for Joe, the story of a football player who becomes paralyzed after an injury on the field. Filming begins this year.

In addition, he's got three other projects in the works. Check out his IMDb page for more.

Annabeth Gish was recently a guest star on Lie To Me, but she's got plenty of other projects coming up. In The Chaperone, she plays the mother of a teenage girl whose father gets out of prison. That hits theaters on February 18th.

Gish will also be appearing in the The Fields, based on the book The Texas Killing Fields. You can expect to see that in theaters mid July. Home Run Showdown is also going to be hitting theaters this year. If that's not enough to keep you occupied, check out her IMDb page, or crank up the whale songs.

It looks like both Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish are keeping busy. Hopefully they'll have plenty of time to work XF3 into their schedules though...

Female Action Heroes Redefine a Genre

Female Action Heroes Redefine a Genre

from X Files Latest News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Kylie Thomas - Staff Reporter)

The Huffington Post's recent article, Why Wonder Woman belongs on Television, discusses the upcoming Wonder Woman reboot, set to air this Fall on NBC. The article presents readers with a look at women action heroes on the big screen and the small screen.

According to the author, female characters on the big screen have yet to find much real success with audiences and have failed to have to leave a lasting mark within the genre—whereas their small screen counterparts have found great success. From Buffy, CSI, and Weeds to shows that arguably started it all like The X Files, the women of the small screen have helped carve out a piece of female action figure history and have redefined the female's role as an action hero.

On The X Files, it was Special Agent Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, who "took a character originally intended (by Fox execs) for a Pamela Anderson-type and turned [Scully] into one of the most iconic characters in the science-fiction genre," a character whom the article also suggests might have become more important to the show than Mulder himself.

Whether or not every Phile would agree on Scully's individual importance to the show, it is great nonetheless for Scully and Gillian Anderson to be recognized for her great contributions to the genre and for helping to redefine what it means to be a female action hero. (This writer would argue that a little show about one man's quest, became a big show about two FBI Agents, their devotion to one another and the truth they risked everything to find...but that's a topic for another day.)

Be sure to read the full article to find out which small screen characters are keeping Scully company on the hit list, and which big screen heroines failed to keep audiences packing theaters.
