Spotnitz on Sam Hunter's Next Adventure

As you may have heard here at XFN and on many different media outlets, the BBC decided not to renew Hunted, Frank Spotnitz new series. However, this doesn't mean that the road is over for Sam Hunter, the main character of the series, portrayed by Melissa George.

This is because, as confirmed by Spotnitz himself and Cinemax, a new spinoff is in the works.

According to his interview with our friends at Den Of Geek, Spotnitz and HBO will be able to continue with the mithology created for the show, but they won't be able to develop it as an exact continuation of the previous production between the BBC and Cinemax.

Regardless of what the future brings for this amazing spy drama story, Frank is delighted to be able to continue the road for these characters, now with the advantages of producing for a more defined audience.

In an exclusive short conversation with XFN, he went on to say:

"I'd like to give a special shout out to all the X-Philes who've voiced their support for Hunted. Thank you all so much for always being there. I'm incredibly excited about continuing Sam's story with Cinemax, and I can't wait for you to see what comes next."

We invite you to read the whole interview at Den Of Geek, but we warn you, it does include SPOILERS from the last episode. So proceed with caution. It also includes the previously released questions about XF3 and the possibilities of an X-Files reincarnation.

If you're watching Hunted on the BBC, the final episode of this incarnation will air on November 26th, but the show still has a few episodes to go in its airing at Cinemax.

Annabeth Gish Cast In FX Drama Pilot ‘The Bridge’

Demian Bichir is set as the male lead opposite Diane Kruger in FX’s drama pilot The Bridge, directed by Mexican director Gerardo Naranjo (Miss Bala). Also cast in the project, an adaptation of the Scandinavian series Bron/Broen, are Annabeth Gish and Ted Levine. The Bridge centers on two detectives from the United States and Mexico – El Paso Police Homicide Detective Sonya North (Kruger) and Marco Ruiz (Bichir) — who must work together to hunt down a serial killer operating on both sides of the American-Mexican border. Marco Ruiz is described as a family man and one of the last good men in a corrupt and apathetic police force that is outgunned by the powerful drug cartels. Gish will play Charlotte, a wealthy ranch wife suddenly widowed when her older husband suffers a massive heart attack while on the Mexican side of the border. She soon learns that her late husband had many shocking secrets. Monk alum Levine will play Sonya’s Lieutenant at the El Paso Open Police Department, a veteran cop with a weathered cowboy swagger.
CAA-repped Bichir was nominated for an Oscar this year for his lead role in A Better Life. This marks the Mexican-born actor’s second U.S. series following his stint on Showtime’s Weeds. Gish, repped by Innovative and Thruline Entertainment, recurs on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars. Levine, managied by Robbie Kass, recently recurred on HBO’s Luck. The Bridge was adapted for American television by Meredith Stiehm (Homeland) and Elwood Reid (Hawaii Five-0) who executive produce alongside Carolyn Bernstein, Lars Blomgren and Jane Featherstone. The Bridge, a co-production of Shine America and FX Prods., begins production this fall in El Paso and Los Angeles.

Chris Carter to Produce New Series

Chris Carter will be producing a new Thriller Drama TV series titled The After. The project, produced in conjuction with independent TV studio Georgeville Television, will debut at MIPCON TV Market next week.
According to Deadline
Written by Carter, The After is a thriller which revolves around a mysterious, unexplained event. In the vein of The X Files, The After incorporates elements of science fiction, suspense, and real-world fear and paranoia. “Chris has woven his mythology magic within a very human, grounded story about the moment when we realize all of our worst fears about the world and its future,” said Georgeville CEO Marc Rosen, who co-founded the company earlier this year with Leon Clarance of Motion Picture Capital, the financing arm of Reliance Entertainment.
What does this mean? MIPCON TV Market is a showcase for new programming available to be sold to new markets, production companies and studios. The After will be available for all these industry consumers to be sold and possibly finding a spot where it could be part of a network that not only could continue its production but also put it on the airwaves.

David Duchovny Wants to Do a Third X-Files Movie

I would love to do another film, or more. - David Duchovny

Collider recently interviewed actor David Duchovny and got the scoop on the rumored 3rd X-Files movie.

"That book doesn't close until somebody dies, really. One of the greatnesses of the show was its open-endedness. It was about possibility. It wasn't about closure. It just couldn't be. There is no such thing as that story ever ending. Those characters are forever searching. That's what they do. Even if we're not watching them, they're out there, in some dimension. Mulder and Scully are still doing their thing 'cause that's their nature.

I would love to do another film, or more. I think we're all game for it. I know I'm kind of perplexed that Fox isn't more [enthusiastic]. Here's a homegrown property that you don't have to go buy, like fuckin' Green Lantern or something, to make it. Here you've got an actual action franchise that's your own. It's weird to me, but I'm not an executive. I don't know if they made the Green Lantern either, but I'm just using that as an example of, "Why make that film? Why not make a homegrown franchise that is excellent, and that has proven to be excellent and interesting?" I don't get it, but that's not my business.

I think Chris Carter is probably working on an idea, so we'll see. Unfortunately, with the last one, they didn't spend the money to compete in a summer fashion, and they brought it out in the summer. It should be a summer film. It should be an action film. But, the last one we made was not. The last one we made was a dark, contemplative, small $25 million film. It was basically an independent film. When you come out against Batman, it's not going to happen. You're not going to be sold as an independent film, and you're not going to compete against Batman with $25 million. "

The actor will be seen next in Christopher Neil's indie comedy Goats. As for those rumors about Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) dating in real-life? Well, only time will tell if those pan out to be true.

The X-Files 3 is in development and stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson.

David Speaks Out About XF3

080912-DavidCollider-TDCollider took an opportunity to talk about a possible third X-Files feature film with David Duchovny today, who was making the rounds promoting his new film Goats. What David had to say won't surprise you, but perhaps how much he had to say might.

"I know I’m kind of perplexed that Fox isn’t more [enthusiastic]. Here’s a homegrown property that you don’t have to go buy, like fuckin’ Green Lantern or something, to make it. Frank Spotnitz' statement on XF3

Frank Spotnitz' statement on XF3

from X-Files News by srta.avi@gmail.com (Avi Quijada - Editor In Chief)

Frank Spotnitz has written on his blog about the possibilities on the production of XF3.

Please follow the link.

XF3

by Frank Spotnitz

Since The X-Files: I Want to Believe was released more than three years ago, the question I have been asked most often is, “When is the next X-Files movie coming?”

The box-office performance of the last film has made it difficult to answer. Some people said the audience just wasn’t there anymore. Others blamed the subject matter, the relatively modest budget, the lack of promotion, the release date, or the movie itself.

But wherever the finger of blame was pointed, I told everyone and anyone who would listen that it would be a mistake to count out The X-Files. “Don’t give up,” I kept saying, echoing the line Father Crissman told Scully in the last film.

Support from fans around the world, frequently spearheaded by the amazing team at XFilesNews.com, has been unwavering. Time and again, X-Philes have mounted imaginative and powerful campaigns to get the studio’s attention – to remind 20th Century Fox that they are sitting on one of the greatest franchises in history, a creative and commercial gold mine that has been left languishing.

Now we are only eight months away from December 2012, the series’ fabled date for alien colonization. I wish I could write today to announce that a script has been written, or even commissioned. Despite my cheerleading, cajoling and plain nagging these past few years, that is not the case.

But I am not writing today to say I am giving up.

I am writing to say it is not too late to make a third X-Files movie.

I am writing to say I still believe the audience is out there for an epic film that would bring to a close the series’ rich and complex alien storyline.

I am writing to say leaving the last chapter of this great story untold is a terrible shame and great waste.

I am writing to say I won’t give up.

And I hope you won’t, either.

Wow oh Wow, me being an x files will love this and I will never give up on getting a xf3 and will work hard to post all content related to x files and anyone that has to do with it, in the past and for the future..stay tuned for more news and see where the xphiles are at…

Scully: A Kick-Ass TV Heroine

Scully: A Kick-Ass TV Heroine

from X-Files News by roi_ollson@xfilesnews.com (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

To no one's surprise here, the enigmatic Dana Scully has been named in Stylist.co.uk's list of 25 Kick-Ass TV Heroines. Almost 20 years since she walked onto our screens and the woman is still bringing the heat. Let's hope FOX takes note:

Special agent/doctor Dana Scully was the tough-woman pin-up of 90s sci-fi TV. The sceptical counterpart to her partner, agent Fox Mulder, (a true believer in the paranormal) she confronts all manner of strange phenomena, from secret alien invasions and kidnappings to graphic experiments, and was hailed by The Huffington Post as 'one of the most iconic characters in the science-fiction genre.'

Head over to the article and give Scully the five star rating she deserves. And while there you might notice some familiar faces--including Carrie Mathison from Gordon and Gansa's Homeland. Scully is among some good company, though no one else will ever hold our hearts quite like she does.

Unless there's a "Milagro" situation happening, in which case, someone call 911...

Mulder: One of TV's Most Memorable Detectives

from X-Files News by srta.avi@gmail.com (Avi Quijada - Editor-In-Chief)

"I have lived with a fragile faith built on vague memories from an experience that I could neither prove nor explain. When I was 12, my sister was taken from me, taken from our home by a force that I came to believe was extraterrestrial. This belief sustained me, fueling a quest for truths that were as elusive as the memory itself. To believe as passionately as I did was not without sacrifice, but I always accepted the risks -- to my career, my reputation, my relationships, to life itself."

That's exactly what made Fox Mulder one of the Most Memorable Detectives of TV of All Time, according to Huffington Post. If you want to check out the other contenders, click here.

Spotnitz to Attend European TV Drama Lab

Spotnitz to Attend European TV Drama Lab

from X-Files News by tiffany.devol@gmail.com (Jessa Schlitt - Staff Reporter)

The entertainment business in Berlin has been suffering from multiple industry follies such as; writer's block, ephemeral series, and an "extreme case of the Mondays where nothing seems to go right.” Luckily, the producers of long-time running American television shows such as Frank Spotnitz, producer/writer/director of The X-Files, as well as Neil Baer (Law & Order), have been tapped to attend the European TV Drama Series Lab 2012 in Berlin. Frank Spotnitz and other producers “will describe the importance of a showrunner in US productions.”
“The event, organised by the Potsdam-based Erich Pommer Institut in association with MediaXchange, is spilt across two workshops, taking place on April 24-29 and June 9-15.” The first workshop will focus more on narrative structures of series (which is where Mr. Spotnitz will be) while the second module is dedicated to exploring the US concept of the writers room.

The X-Files' Gillian Anderson: I've Had Lesbian Relationships

Gillian Anderson just put a little more truth out there.

The X-Files heroine reveals in the latest issue of Out magazine that she has had romantic relationships with women over the years.

"I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school," the 43-year-old mother of three said, recalling other past relationships that included a "punk rock drug addict" and somebody "way, way older" than her as well.

But obviously Out wanted to know a little bit more about her high school days...

"Yeah, yeah, well it's..." she began. "You know, I'm old enough that I can talk about that."

Alas, the actress who played the cool, calm and frustratingly skeptical Dana Scully didn't say much more about it.

Anderson did maintain that her liaisons with women have been the exception to the rule.

The twice-divorced star of the BBC adaptation of Great Expectations (airing soon on PBS' Masterpiece) has a 17-year-old daughter with her first husband, whom she was married to for three years. She also has two sons, 5 and 3, with current love Mark Griffiths.

Scully Tops the List

Scully Tops the List

from X-Files News by roi_ollson@xfilesnews.com (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

In honor of International Women's Day, RadioTimes.com celebrated with a list of some of television's strongest women. And it's no surprise to us that Special Agent/Doctor/Alien Fighter Extraordinaire Dana Scully topped the list:

Whether she was tackling aliens, killers, government conspiracies or Fox Mulder’s credulity, the medical doctor and FBI agent took it all in her stride, often simultaneously battling some unfortunate hairdos. Smart, courageous and resourceful, Scully was never afraid to say what she thought – or back up a friend.

Keep up the great work, Scully. You make us all proud.

CAA Signs Chris Carter

CAA Signs Chris Carter

from X-Files News by holly_simon@xfilesnews.com (Avi Quijada - Editor-In-Chief)

From Deadline.Com

The X-Files creator Chris Carter has signed with CAA. Carter had been a longtime client of Bob Broder, first at BWCS and most recently at ICM following the agencies’ 2006 merger. After a decade away from TV, Carter last fall teamed with MRC to shop female-driven mystery thriller spec Unique, which ultimately didn’t sell.

He is attached as an executive producer to another spec, written by feature scribe Jon Bokenkamp, which is being shopped to cable networks by Sony TV. In addition to The X-Files, which ran on Fox for 9 seasons, Carter created Harsh Realm and Millennium and co-created the X-Files spinoff The Lone Gunmen. Since The X-Files ended its run in 2002, Carter has stayed largely out of the spotlight, only resurfacing to do the 2008 X-Files movie sequel and the upcoming thriller Fencewalker. There has been talk recently about a potential third X-Files movie.

Three Years Without...

from X-Files News by alleyphile@yahoo.com (Avi Quijada - Editor-In-Chief)

It seems incredible that it has been 3 years since Kim Manners passed away.
It's because of his work that many of us got to fall in love with The X-Files, because of the way he showed us the stories that led us to imagine, led us to enjoy, led us to call ourselves X-Philes.

The memory of Kim not only lives on through the many shows that he produced and directed over the many years of his filmmaking career, but also through the inspiration that he sparked on projects like the LAX-Files book and its matching numerous auctions that have raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Association.

Here's to you, Kim. We're trying our best to "Kick it in the ass!"

If you want to support the ongoing charity drive in his memory, don't forget to visit the LAX-Files website.

Featured Video- Illuminated

Featured Video- Illuminated

from X-Files News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol - Content Director)

This week's featured video is brought to you in the wake of recent protests against two very important bills that have been in front of the U.S. Congress; SOPA and PIPA. As of this morning, the votes have been delayed in the House and the Senate after major websites like Google, Wikipedia, and Reddit, amassed support in opposition of the bills from the worldwide internet community, but the fight is not over. To read more about how these bills, as written,  could affect this fandom, head over to XFN's article: Fight for the Future.

Illuminated, by DandaLaFleurMC, is perhaps a more fitting featured video this week, than any other week.

FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE

FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE

from X-Files News by alleyphile@yahoo.com (The XFN Team)

It's not a secret that we are the first Fandom that took ownership of the Internet as it developed over the years to help us become the great community that we are today.

SOPA & PIPA are laws that would directly stop any further development of any fandom as we know it. There would be no freedom to create fanfiction, fanvids, fan art, campaigns to raise awareness of how great show or a movie is... no more YouTube, no more Facebook, no more Google or Wikipedia.

What does it mean for XFN: say goodbye to the featured video of the week. Say goodbye to us sourcing articles from other websites that could as well shut down. Say goodbye to any picture coverage from any event that we couldn't attend but linked back to other people that took the pictures, etc, etc, etc.

Even if you don't live in the USA, all websites based or maintained in anyway in web servers in this country would be ruled by this law, and since the internet is the biggest community of it all, the global village, everyone would be exposed to the self inflicted censorship that we would have to incur into to try to protect our existence.

If you are in the USA, urge your senator or congressman to vote NO on these laws as they are written today. They need to be defined properly and written with more awareness of what the times are.

If you want to learn more about the reality of these laws, CLICK HERE.

With Pilot season approaching very fast, eyes are keeping track of the new and exciting projects coming on to the very competitive new projects market.

One of the projects that has been creating waves of interest is Chris Carter's Unique, and according to Deadline,

Carter’s Unique starts off as a revenge drama about a woman’s quest to solve her husband’s murder but is subsequently vaulted into a global mythological conspiracy show that takes place in a heightened reality. The project, produced by MRC, has been getting high marks from network executives for the interactive way the script is being presented on iPads with sample scene storyboards and soundtrack.

I don't think we have to go ahead and express how excited we are for what this new year is bringing up!

Gillian Speaks to the TCA

Gillian Anderson recently attended the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, California to promote Great Expectations in the United States. The miniseries will be airing on PBS in the US this April. For those who haven't seen what's already aired on BBC One, Gillian said of Miss Havisham:

I think she’s in a lot of pain. I also think that one of the ways she feeds that pain in the same way that an addict feeds their pain,...Where I reconcile that is in my own understanding of where that lies for me in my own life and how I scratch that itch and to have compassion for people, one, humans, her, who have that level on pain that they need to inflict it on others.
