Adam Chamberlain of Back to Frank Black (and XFN's newest Guest Writer) is reporting that Lance Henriksen has joined the cast of Phantom, currently in production in Long Beach. Henriksen will join David Duchovny, Ed Harris, Natascha McElhone, and William Fichtner in the Cold War indie thriller that is being produced by Solar Filmworks with K5 Internationalhandling sales.

While it is not yet known what role Henriksen will be playing, Duchovny is in the role of Bruni, a Soviet special forces team leader aboard the submarine.

K5 Synopsis:

Suspicion between the superpowers is at its peak and the Americans are staging a mass Naval exercise in the Pacific. To observe the manoeuvres submarine Captain Dmitri Zubov, an experienced sailor but a man troubled by a past he struggles to live with, sets sail on what is the final mission of Soviet submarine B756. Armed with multiple torpedoes and a single tactical nuclear ballistic missile the sub is also fitted with a cloaking device that can render them invisible to the Americans.

When B756 fails to make a position report - the last that is heard from the sub it was 500 nautical miles NW of the Hawaiian Islands - Fleet Command classifies the vessel as missing. Fearing western retaliation they send their entire fleet after B756.

Meanwhile deep under the Pacific Ocean Captain Zubov and the ship’s crew of the B-756 uncover a plot that will destroy humanity. Zubov is determined to foil the plot but as the sub is pushed to its very limits and air supplies diminish, he and the crew face almost impossible odds and an increasingly unsettling sense that they are not alone...

David Duchovny to Star in "Relative Insanity"

David Duchovny to Star in "Relative Insanity"

from X-Files News by alleyphile@yahoo.com (Avi Quijada - Editor-In-Chief)

David Duchovny will join Oscar winning actress, Helen Hunt, Maggie Grace, Joan Chen and John Robinson in the new screen adaptation of Anton Checkhov's The Seagull currently named Relative Insanity.

According to The Guardian:

The Seagull centres on the fading actress Irina Nikolayevna Arkadina's relationship with her son Konstantin, a failing playwright in love with a bright, young actress, Nina Mikhailovna Zarechnaya. Though casting hasn't been officially announced, Hunt is likely to take the Irina role and Duchovny that based on Trigorin, the pompous established playwright despised by Konstantin.

Larry Moss, Duchovny's former acting coach, is set to make his directorial debut with this feature that will be centered in the Hamptons instead of Russia.  Shooting is set to start next year and is being written and produced by Pier 3 Pictures.

'Time to Talk with...' Gillian Anderson

'Time to Talk with...' Gillian Anderson

from X Files Latest News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Adam Chamberlain - Guest Writer)

“Time to Talk with…” Gillian Anderson: Rose Theatre, 17th October 2011

Gillian Anderson stepped onto the stage of the Rose Theatre in the London suburb of Kingston last night for what proved to be an intimate, insightful and entertaining evening.  The event comprised an interview conducted by English theatre directorStephen Unwin, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.  I was afforded the privilege of a front row seat, and am more than pleased to be able to share some highlights here for X-Files News.

Unwin proved to be well rehearsed for the interview in part—notably regarding Anderson’s stage career—whilst a little uninformed in other areas, but the conversation was nonetheless fluid and entertaining throughout.  Gillian first discussed her induction into acting, revealing that she had all but given up on any dreams of so doing for four years after being passed over in an audition for a production of Alice in Wonderland at a community theatre in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the age of twelve.  She talked too of lengthy spells of waitressing both before and after her early success in an off-Broadway production of Absent Friends (1990-91) before once being offered three roles in a single day.

Inevitably, though, and with Gillian quipping, “Oh, so that’s what this is all about,” talk turned to The X-Files.  She spoke of the long road to winning the role of Dana Scully, recalling that she remembers where she was and what pajamas she was wearing when she first read the script for the pilot, plus borrowing a suit on one of many call backs during the audition process on the advice of Chris Carter!  She talked too about retaining her focus on the role throughout the series’ nine-year run by focusing on the work that was right in front of her at any given time, and cited “Bad Blood” as her favorite episode.  This had been in response to a question from a member of the audience, but as an aside she revealed that she had been giving press interviews for the UK release ofJohnny English Reborn all day and had been surprised to be asked about doing comedy for the first time givenThe X-Files’ frequent forays into such material, exclaiming quite rightly that “we were extraordinarily funny!”

The interview also included significant talk of the potential future for the franchise, with Gillian re-asserting her strong wish to reprise the role of Scully for a third movie and going on to stress a sense of urgency to that desire.  Specifically she suggested that it was “clear what [the movie] needs to be, but making it happen is difficult” and that whilst a December 2012 release date was the obvious one suggested by the series’ mythology, in order to meet such a date filming would ideally start as soon as January.  In terms of the potential project’s current status, she said that she had “been told there is something in the works,” but added that she did not know “how true that is or what it means” and that she was not sure whether or not a script had been written.

'The Walking Dead' Breaks Records Again

from X Files Latest News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol - Content Director)

The Walking Dead has done it again. The highly anticipated season 2 premiere not only broke previous cable ratings records, it outright obliterated them. Sunday night's premiere snatched up 7.3 million viewers, 4.8 million of those being in the key 18-49 demographic. What's more, the total viewership for season 2 is up 38% and its now become the most watched drama in the history of basic cable television. These impressive numbers come even after AMC slashed the show's budget, a move that culminated with the exit of creator and executive producer, Frank Darabont after last season.

Deadline.com offers more on this story as well as an impressive ratings chart:

4.8 million viewers in Adults 18-49
4.2 million viewers in Adults 25-54
7.3 million total viewers for premiere
11 million total viewers for the night

X-Files alum Laurie Holden will soon be joined on the show by another face recognizable to X-Files fans, Pruitt Taylor Vince (Gerry Schnauz, "Unruhe").

The Walking Dead airs on Sundays 9/8c on AMC.

XFN is happy to announce that after last year's very successful pumpkin carving contest, we're continuing the tradition! Your mission is simple: carve a X-Files themed pumpkin. Go as simple or as advanced as you like, but just be careful not to carve off any fingers. No need to feed Donny Pfaster.

Photos of your pumpkin masterpiece can be emailed to xfn1013@gmail.com. The deadline is Sunday, October 30th up through midnight Eastern Time. It doesn't matter where you are in the world, or how much experience you have carving, the point is to have fun with it.

On Halloween, the pumpkin deemed the most worthy to sit on the porch of the unremarkable house will be announced as the winner, and a special prize will be sent to its Phile carver.

Go forth and find the perfect pumpkin and carve away, Philes!

Believing in the Future Together

Believing in the Future Together

from X Files Latest News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (The XFN Team)

October 13th was perhaps one of the most inspiring and fulfilling days for XFilesNews staff since XFN opened its doors in October of 2007. As we approach our 4th birthday, we are completely blown away at what this fandom can do.

Just last month, fans came together to celebrate 18 years of The X-Files and tweeted to 20thCenturyFox to show their support for a thirdX-Files feature film. On that day, September 10th 2011, 16,636 tweets were sent, actors Annabeth Gish and BD Wong threw in their support, and philes had such a great time they asked to do it again.

At midnight on October 13th in New Zealand, the second #XF3 Tweet Campaign began as fans once again joined together to tweet 20thCenturyFox to ask for a third X-Files film, this time in honor of Chris Carter's birthday and Ten Thirteen Productions. Annabeth Gish, Dan Sackheim, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness joined the fun, as did Jimmy Kimmel, much to the delight of philes worldwide. Word spread and soon various sci fi blogs and other fandoms began throwing in their support as well. It was the first time Philes were joined by fans of Castle, CSI, Bones, Fringe, Supernatural, Legend of the Seeker and Haven, all at once. OneHaven fan tweeted their support for #XF3 because several philes tweeted in support of a third season for Haven.

As each country hit October 13th, the tweeting picked up speed and by early afternoon in Los Angeles, #XF3 had gone from not being ranked, to ranking in at number 15 in Twitter's top 500 hashtags. By evening, tweets were coming in from 5 continents, simultaneously.

Hawaii brought the campaign home at midnight October 14th and when the dust settled, philes had sent32,049 tweets, nearly double the number of tweets sent during the September 10th campaign.

The last recorded tweet before the cutoff says it all: Because it's 6am! Go #XF3 - SpookyKatie

XFilesNews has been extremely proud to be part of such a diverse, intelligent, and determined fandom. We've made lifelong friends with many of you, and we've shared laughs and a few tears with the rest of you. If there is one thing we've learned in 4 years of doing this, it's that no one gets there alone. We would not be what we are, and these campaigns could not do what they do, without each and every one of you. When X-Files 3 gets a greenlight, it will be because this fandom comes together, and accomplishes extraordinary things. If you have any doubts as to whether or not Chris Carter or Frank Spotnitz believe in a third film, just remember their words: Don't Give Up. If you have any doubts about Fox, perhaps you should read this.

Thank you for this incredible journey you've taken with us, and don't give up.

#XF3 Campaign Having an Impact?

#XF3 Campaign Having an Impact?

from X-Files News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol - Content Director)

XFilesNews has been campaigning for a third X-Filesfeature film since early 2009 and after last night's start to the #XF3 Twitter campaign for 10:13, it just may be having an impact.

Journalist Patrick Munn has an article up this morning which sources a contact at Fox on the possibility of a third X-Filesmovie, whether or not a script is in the works, and if Fox is aware of the fan campaign to get a third movie made.

We've been aware of them for some time. The persistence, drive and passion is remarkable. They have been surprisingly consistent and well organized. - Munn's source at Fox

Probably more interesting is several comments the Fox source makes about the script. That's right, not a script or a possible script, the script.

Celebrating Ten Thirteen

Celebrating Ten Thirteen

from X-Files News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (The XFN Team)

"Where we're from it's always 10:13!"

It's a phrase philes have heard since XFN's Place video in 2008 and it's every bit as true today as it was then. If there is one day a year that philes celebrate like Christmas or a birthday, it's October 13th. Cakes are baked, X-Files viewing parties are scheduled, and this year, fans have gone the extra mile by taking to twitter to celebrate the man behind it all, X-Filescreator and executive producer, Chris Carter.

10:13 is special for many reasons. It's Carter's birthday, it's Mulder's birthday, and it's the name of Chris Carter's production company, Ten Thirteen productions.

Perhaps even more special, is the meaning that philes give to 10:13: "When one's heart belongs to the same place and time- 10:13 is not an hour, or a date, or a code, or a casefile. 10:13 is a life philosophy. It's the moment where we secretly smile. 10:13, is a state of mind." - XFN Place

Today's Twitter campaign is certainly an example of the love fans have for Chris Carter and Ten Thirteen, and in honor of today, we are sharing a few of those tweets below:

Happy Birthday Chris Carter! Maybe @FoxBroadcasting will gift you a greenlight for #XF3! - Feed_The_Birds

Happy Birthday to Chris Carter. Thanks for giving the world the best show ever #XF3 - Xphileosaurus

Happy Birthday from XFilesNews to the man, the legend, Chris Carter. Thank you for bringing Mulder and Scully into our lives, for teaching us to question, and inspiring us to believe. Gillian Anderson on Playing the Boss and Being Happy with Smaller Parts

Gillian Anderson on Playing the Boss and Being Happy with Smaller Parts

from X-Files News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol - Content Director)

Erica Thompson has published a fantastic interview she did with Gillian Anderson this week which covers everything from Gillian's recent portrayals of bosses, to why she is in no rush to be the leading lady (though she would make an exception for X-Files 3).

"Every time I do something that takes a long time, I am aware of how much it is taking away from my experience with my kids. I do try to keep the amount of weeks that I'm filming down. Sometimes you can block shoot things, so if a film is going on for two months, you can block shoot a character within three to four weeks. That's harder to do if you're a more central character, so it has to be something pretty great to make that decision to be on set for three months." - Gillian Anderson

"Breaking Bad" Season Finale

from X Files Latest News by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

It seems that not that long ago everyone was prepping for the season four premiere of Vince Gilligan's Breaking Bad, and now we're just hours away from the season finale. Any Phile who watches this masterpiece knows that this last season has been incredible. We're not sure how he does it, but Vince manages to outdo himself every episode. Obviously The X-Files taught him very well.

Stephen King, an X-Files fan himself, hailed Breaking Bad as "the best [show] of the 21st century". And tonight the cast and crew wrap up some pretty important story lines. Okay, we're not finding out about the alien invasion, but according to Vince, you will find out the mystery behind that ricin.

If you watch Breaking Bad, don't forget to tune in to AMC at 10pm or 9 Central. And if you don't, first off, shame on you. You just made Vince Gilligan cry. Now go to Netflix and watch until you're caught up. And be sure not to disturb anyone who is watching because after watching this show, they definitely know a few new ways to kill someone...

This week's featured video is brought to you by the incredible KatrinDepp. I Wouldn't Change a Day is a beautiful video that draws multiple parallels between some of the very best moments of The X-Files over its 9 year and two feature films run. Filled with voiceovers, and with Death Cab for Cutie as a backdrop, I Wouldn't Change a Day illustrates just what Scully meant by that phrase.

We're not sure we would change a day either....even that flukeman thing.
