Gillian Anderson has signed on to play Betsy Foxer in the upcoming The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet.

This feature length film is based on Fizz and Ginger Films' short, E'gad, Zombies! which released at The Cannes Film Festival in May 2010 and has been screening at various festivals since.

by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Sandi Hicks - Staff Reporter)

David Duchovny has been busy at the Tribeca Film Festival recently, moderating an "After the Film" session for Chris Paine's film Revenge of the Electric Car.

Revenge is director Chris Paine's energetic and beautifully shot follow-up to Who Killed the Electric Car? and is fueld by unprecedented access to the sweat and tears of four entrepreneurs ready to risk nearly everything.

Duchovny, as we know from a 2008 interview, drives an electric car.

For more information about the film, and to get your hands on tickets which are available until April 30th- visit the TFF Website.

The LAX-Files book signing and Q&A  is now just 11 days away and due to a significant change in this event, if you've not yet bought a ticket, you should consider doing so soon!

LAX-Files organizers had originally planned to film the Q&A session but due to circumstances beyond their control, NO FILMING or AUDIO RECORDING will be permitted.

With Chris Carter, Mitch Pileggi, Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan, James Wong, and Jeff Gulka confirmed along with a special surprise guest expected to make an appearance, a ticket to this event will be your only chance to fully take part!

As official press, XFilesNews will still be tweeting and uploading photos, but we will not be recording audio or video and philes will have to rely on tweets and XFN updates only.

Given what we know of this event, we highly recommend those of you in the area, close to the area, or within reasonable proximity to the state of California, purchase a ticket!

This event will mark the first time that AFI has opened up their exclusive Mark Goodsen Theater to a fan event, and all proceeds are going to the American Cancer Society in honor of the late Kim Manners.

We've not had a phile event like this since 2009 and even then, not one of this kind.

You do not want to miss this. Come out on May 7th to help celebrate the life of Kim Manners and view him through the eyes of those he influenced in his time here.

13 Questions for Frank Spotnitz

13 Questions for Frank Spotnitz

by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

Recently, The Junction, a German blog that covers cultural topics, conducted an interview with none other than Frank Spotnitz. "Truth, Trust, and the Magic of Mulder & Scully" asks thirteen questions of one of our favorite writers.

The interview covers storytelling, his current projects, his thoughts on the fandom, and even XF3: "I still don’t have any news to share. But I won’t give up. And the fans shouldn’t, either."

For more insights from the man behind Big Light and the inspiration for Frankenbear, check out the interview here.

Beware the Future: The Date is Set

Beware the Future: The Date is Set

by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Joselyn Rojas - Staff Reporter)

As you all know, Sci-Fi culture often discusses the imminent destruction of Humankind. Whether by cyborgs, aliens, famine, or man's own devices, is another matter.

Since we are now in the 21st century, these moments of doom are closer than ever and what better way to prepare than to mark them all on your iPads, smart-phones, or simply on an old fashioned calendar?

The Los Angeles Times has published the 13 most important Sci-Fi dates which determine the not so distant future. In this apocalyptic list, the infamous invasion date depicted by The X-Files, December 22nd, 2012, comes in at number 3. It is preceded by Skynet's activation and Judgment Day in Terminator.

December 22nd 2012 is a very important date to philes since it will most certainly be the subject of a third (as yet un-greenlit) X-Files feature film.

Now that I have you in an apocalyptic mood, here are two recent XF3 Army videos touching on the end of the world, phile-style.

Doodling Does Some Good

Doodling Does Some Good

by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

National Doodle Day is coming up on May 12th, but this isn't your average day of doodling in class or that boring meeting at work. These artistic creations are being auctioned off to support Neurofibromatosis, Inc., a cause supported by Gillian Anderson.

In recent years, many doodles have come from those associated with The X-Files, including Gillian Anderson and her daughter and sister, Clyde Klotz, Tea Leoni, John Hawkes, Laurie Holden, Xzibit, Annabeth Gish, Chris Carter, and Frank Spotnitz. So far this year are X-Files alumniVeronica Cartwright (Cassandra Spender), Dean Haglund, and not one, buttwo doodles from Mark Snow.

The auctions are still a few weeks away, so more doodles will be going up before they start, including those by Gillian and her daughter Piper. Until

New Film for Gillian Anderson

New Film for Gillian Anderson

by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol)

Someone has been busy!

Several days ago rumor had it that Gillian was cast in The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet, a comedy about villagers falling ill and turning into creatures that will eat just about anything as survivors escape to France. Appropriately, the release date is set for Halloween, 2012.

Today, a phile at IdealistsHaven emailed the director of the film who confirmed that it is not a rumor, that Gillian has in fact, been cast in the film.

Between this and her other "rumored" projects, we will be seeing a lot of Gillian in the very near future. XFN published an article in early March about her rumored role in Shadow Dancer that has since been confirmed. Another rumored project is an upcoming French film by director Ursula Meier, and there is also Gillian's possible role in an upcoming spy series. Hopefully soon we'll be able to take the rumored out of "rumored projects."

Looks like Gillian's  breaking out of her box after all.

If you got the chance to watch Any Human Heart, then you experienced some amazing acting, particularly by Gillian Anderson. And while we all love to see our favorite X-Files actors in new projects, it seems that we're not the only ones who took notice of her role as Wallis Simpson.

For her performance as the Duchess of Windsor, Gillian has been nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Supporting Actress. AHH has two other nominations as well: one for Jim Broadbent and one for Drama Serial.

For more information on the other nominees, check out the original listhere.

LAX-Files Adds Two More Guests!

LAX-Files Adds Two More Guests!

by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol)

XFN can confirm that the LAX-Files event has just added two more guests!

Showing up to help support the American Cancer Society for the LAX-Files book signing and Q&A event on May 7th are writers/producers Darin Morgan and James Wong!

Philes know Darin Morgan as the man in the flukeman suit in "Host," Eddie Van Blundht in "Small Potatoes" and writer of phenomenal X-Files episodes such as; "Humbug," "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," "War of the Coprophages," and "Jose Chungs from Outer Space."

James Wong is best known as co-writer of some of The X-Files' very best episodes! He's the man who brought us "Home" along with writing partner, Glen Morgan. "Home" was the firstX-Files episode to get a viewer discretion warning for graphic content, became one of the series' most popular episodes and was one of director Kim Manners' favorites. Wong and Morgan were also responsible for MOTW's "Tooms" and "Squeeze" (we'll never look at an air vent the same way again) and for the beautifully memorable, "Beyond the Sea."

Guests now include Chris Carter, Glen Morgan, James Wong, Darin Morgan, Mitch Pileggi, Sheila Larken, R.W. Goodwin, and Jeff Gulka!

If you don't have a ticket yet, head here to purchase! It's lining up to be a regular convention and with the news than an unexpected and unannounced guest might be showing up, you don't want to miss this!

Gillian Talks "Time's" 100

Gillian Talks "Time's" 100

by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

As part of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People list, Gillian Anderson recently wrote an article onRebecca Eaton, head of PBS's Masterpiece. She speaks about Ms. Eaton's strong personality and her dedication to bringing great stories to America's public broadcasting system.

The article also highlights a current issue: funding for public broadcasting in the US. With the deficit taking its toll, Masterpiece's future didn't always have the brightest outlook. However, with the innovative steps forward taken by Rebecca Eaton, you can rest assured that whatever period piece Gillian stars in next, it will probably be hitting American TV via Masterpiece.

To read more, head over to Gillian's article here.

Gillian Headed to the Emmys?

Gillian Headed to the Emmys?

by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

According to GoldDerby, Gillian Anderson may be heading to the Emmys in the near future. They recently reported a list of candidates that PBS plans to submit for consideration, and in the "Best Movie/Miniseries Supporting Actress" category is none other than your favorite Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson.

As most of you know, Gillian recently starred in Any Human Heart. She played the strong (and sometimes frightening) wife of the former King of England, Edward VIII. Also on the list from AHH are Hayley Atwell, Matthew Macfadyen, and Jim Broadbent. The series itself is a candidate too--for "Best Movie/Miniseries".

Only time will tell who is actually nominated, but for now, it's good to see that PBS has the same confidence that we do for the woman behind the enigmatic Dr. Scully.

Life Lessons from "The X-Files"

Life Lessons from "The X-Files"

by ROI_OLLSON@XFILESNEWS.COM (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

Back when the series was on the air, did you mom used to roll her eyes when you sat up late watching The X-Files? Now that you're older and more mature, does you mom still roll her eyes when you talk about The X-Files?

If that's the case, then Emily Golinko, a writer at Daily Lobo, has just the thing for you--a list of life lessons that can be learned by watching Mulder and Scully:

"Always be yourself: Fox Mulder was ostracized, poked fun at, shot at, bullied, led on wild goose chases and was even fired multiple times from his job. But he never strayed from himself, his character or his search for truth."

"Find your counterpart: Mulder was the conspiracy theorist, the free thinker, the crazy one. Scully, his partner, was a doctor, a scientist and rational thinker. But despite their differences, they complimented each other perfectly, playing off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses." (Trust No 1 anybody?)

"The truth shall set you free: This is probably the most important lesson you can take away from “The X-Files.” Never stop searching for the truth."

Head over to the article for more crucial life lessons, so that next time mom rolls her yes, you can say "Look mom, I learned something important from all those years of X-Files!" But she'll probably still roll her eyes anyway...

LAX-Files, Chris Carter, and Counting Down to a Greenlight

LAX-Files, Chris Carter, and Counting Down to a Greenlight

from X-Files News by tiffany_devol@xfilesnews.com (Tiffany Devol)

XF3 fever is going strong and May 7th may be your last best chance to see Chris Carter before a third X-Files film gets a green light! (Believe in the Future)

Chris Carter, creator of The X-Files, Mulder and Scully and all things amazing since 1993, will be on hand for a book signing and special Q&A event to take place at the American Film Institute on May 7th!

Joining forces with Chris  to raise funds for the American Cancer Societyin honor of Kim Manners are:

Assistant Director Skinner aka Mitch Pileggi, who gave fans a huge surprise when he showed up to help Scully save Mulder (yet again) in the second X-Files feature film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe. After months of speculation, the skinman finally appeared and all was right with the world!

Maggie Scully aka Sheila Larken, the woman every phile wants as a mom! We've had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Larken, and we can tell you without a doubt that if we could choose an on-screen mom to give us a hug or pack us a lunch, it's her. Not only did Maggie Scully bring up one tough daughter, she did it with grace, style and a never ending belief in faith and hope. No wonder Scully has made it 18 years with Mulder!

Gibson Praise aka Jeff Gulka, the boy who could tell you what you had for breakfast, was apparently very good at hiding the fact that he knew Scully was pregnant (we're guessing he could read fetal thoughts too) and he really made the Fowl one uncomfortable. Jeff is all grown up now and has some pretty funny stories about his time on the series!

R.W Goodwin aka the Golden Globe winning, five-time Emmy Award nominee, co-executive and executive producer of 116 of the series' 202 episodes. If that isn't enough for you, he also directed the phenomenal episode "One Breath" and the season 5 finale which led up to the first feature film in the summer of 1998. That episode, "The End," or as philes remember it, Scully embraces Mulder in their burnt out basement office as fans start the countdown to June 19th. XFN caught up with Bob Goodwin in 2009.

Glen Morgan aka the Emmy nominated writer and producer of some of the series' very best episodes. Glen Morgan is probably best known to X-Files fans as the man who brought us "Home" along with writing partner, James Wong. It was the first X-Files episode to get a viewer discretion warning for graphic content, became one of the series' most popular episodes and was one of director Kim Manners' favorites. Morgan and Wong were also responsible for MOTW's "Tooms" and "Squeeze" (we'll never look at an air vent the same way again) and for the beautifully memorable, "Beyond the Sea."

If you haven't bought your copy of LAX-Files or your ticket to this event, pick up your credit card and make it happen!

Tickets are $77 and all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

We know that no one likes a math geek so we'll make this simple. What will $77 get you? Aside from spending some time with the amazing people listed above and hearing them talk about their time on The X-Files, their memories of Kim Manners and perhaps a hundred fans begging for news about a third X-Files film, you will get their signatures in your LAX-Files book, a souvenir at the door, a special gift provided by Dean Haglund (Langly!), hors d'oeuvres by Mardy's Munchies (you'll be in ecstasy, we promise), and much more!

We can also announce that there may be an unannounced special guest in attendance! We would say more, but they'd have to kill us, and then where would you get your X-Files news?

If you are out of the country and unable to attend, please consider donating to the Phile In Need Program! It's a great way to help a fellow phile and the American Cancer Society.

Come on out to sunny LA the week of May 7th, bring your LAX-Files book, go check out some  fantastic X-Fileslocations, head to the beach and of course the motel where the final scene of "The Truth" was filmed, and prepare to get your phile on because it's time to party like it's 1998, 2008, and hopefully soon, 2012!

*Attendees subject to change based on production schedules.
