20 Years of 'The X-Files' Tweet-A-Thon

20 Years of 'The X-Files' Tweet-A-Thon

On September 10th, 1993 The X-Files premiered at 9pm eastern on the Fox Network and kicked off a wild and unimaginably successful journey that would turn it into a worldwide phenomenon. The impact of that day on popular culture has not been matched by a television show since. The X-Files paved the way for theatrical storytelling on the silver screen and created an environment where stories that push the envelope could not only start but also thrive on television. It became the golden standard, and we miss it terribly.

In celebration of all The X-Files is and was, we're teaming up with our friends at The X-Files 3 in 2012 on Facebook, Aussie X-Files Fans on Facebook, Beyond The Sea IT, X-Files Memories, Area 42, Expedientes X ES and many other local communities, for an ambitious new Tweet-A-Thon. This also serves as an open invitation for all other fan communities across the web to join us on this historic day because no one gets there alone. Just say the word and your group will be added to the list of party goers!

Join us on Tuesday, September 10th to show your love for what brought us all together as fans, friends, and family. It will be a day of reminiscing, celebrating, and showing 20th Century Fox that their 20-year fanbase, like the show, has become a worldwide phenomenon.

The Tweet-A-Thon will run from the moment the first time zone (New Zealand) hits midnight on September 10th until the last time zone (Hawaii) hits midnight on September 11th. So wherever you are in the world, join us in tweeting for The X-Files 20th Anniversary! You can also tweet directly to Fox (@20thcenturyfox), too. Check out the guidelines after the jump to help us make the biggest impact possible.

'X-Files' Finally Coming to Blu-ray?

X-Files News

The rumors are out there, and have been for over a year, but this week multiple sources are suggesting that 20th Century Fox is planning on releasing the entire X-Files series on Blu-ray and that the release could happen as early as this winter.  The Digital Bits stated just days ago  in their Comic-Con blog that they spoke with numerous sources at the San Diego Comic-Con, including sources at the studio and the post production facility (HTV/Illuminate), and were told that the series would be released in Blu-ray as part of the 20th Anniversary celebration of The X-Files this year. "...we believe at least the first season could be announced (in the coming weeks) for release by the end of the year.  Remastering work has been underway at HTV/Illuminate in Hollywood – visual effects and some stock footage shots (of the Hoover building, etc) have required upconversion but otherwise original negative is being scanned in full HD. " - The Digital Bits While XFN cannot confirm these reports, we have had sources telling us that the studio is indeed planning to release the series on Blu-ray as early as this winter. There has been no official word from Fox, but Chris Carter addressed the Blu-ray issue at the IDW Panel at Comic-Con this week.  "I just had a conversation with a guy from Fox yesterday who said they're pushing for that Blu-ray release but it hasn't been formalized or it's not official, so stay tuned for that, but they are releasing it on HD." - Chris Carter 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment in the U.K. announced today that they are releasing the entire series plus both feature films in a new box set (not Blu-ray) in celebration of the 20th Anniversary, and that FTF and IWTB will be released in a Blu-ray box set. While other regions had already received the Blu-ray release of both films, this will be the first time that the dual-film Blu-ray box set has been released in the U.K. Given that the U.K. is celebrating the 20th with new box sets and that FTF/IWTB Blu-ray, it's not a far stretch to believe that 20th Century Fox could in fact be looking at releasing the series on Blu-ray elsewhere. The truth is out there...somewhere.  Once we know anything official, you will be the first to know!

Cary Elwes Joins Calgary Expo

Cary Elwes Joins Calgary Expo

by patricia_silva@xfilesnews.com (Patricia Silva - Staff Reporter)

If you thought Gillian Anderson, Robert Patrick and Mitch Pileggi were enough to create an X-Files reunion at Calgary Expo this coming spring, think again. One more X-Files alumni has beed added to the already amazing line-up of guests at this fast-growing con, Cary Elwes, AKA Asistant Director Brad Follmer.

Yes, yes, some of us may have hated him a little (maybe a lot; maybe he got in the way of your ship), but he redeems himself and helps get things right in the end. You might also recognize Cary Elwes from his roles in The Princess Bride and the Sawmovies.

The Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo will take place in Calgary, AB April 26-28. Check out their website for more details on the Expo.

Chris Carter to Produce the New "X-Files" Comics

Chris Carter to Produce the New "X-Files" Comics

by roi_ollson@xfilesnews.com (Roileigh Ollson - Managing Editor)

Remember those new X-Files comics that are coming out this summer? Well it looks as if they're going to be even more fantastic than we thought because Chris Carter is personally taking part in their production. The comic series is subtitled "Season 10" and Chris will be executive producing them. Currently, he is "personally reading outlines and scripts, providing feedback and suggestions."

Writer Joe Harris and artist Michael Walsh will be working on the new comics. Comic Book Resources recently invterviewed Harris, and he had a lot of interesting things to say about the new adventures coming for Mulder and Scully. Some of the highlights:

"It picks up some time after the last movie and re-introduces Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, along with plenty of the supporting cast of characters everyone remembers and would expect to see."

"We're going to re-establish the mythology, the ever-elusive but tireless quest to discover "the Truth," while conspiratorial elements work against our heroes from both within the government, as well as outside of it, and we're going to dig into plenty of paranormal threats including some that just might be of the extraterrestrial variety."

"They're [Mulder and Scully] together in this series. They're an item. But it's not nearly that simple, or easy, and there are extenuating circumstances related to who they are and what they've been through, both together and apart, that will really test them."

"Another thing I plan on doing every now and again is creating what amounts to a sequel for some classic standalone "Monster of the Week" stories. We've already got one of these in the works and, I do suspect, it's going to get some people excited when they hear about it."

Read more from the interview here

Update: The first issue will be released June 19th, 2013.

In the opening story arc, “Believers,” readers will catch up with Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, living normal lives together under secret identities. However, a visit from an old friend threatens to rip them from suburban anonymity, as they learn that someone is preying upon everyone involved in THE X-FILES. Prepare to revisit familiar faces—some very unexpected, threats old and new, and an intriguing mystery designed to return the beloved franchise to its former glory!
